In a world where we expect the punishment for a drink driving offence to commonly be deservedly harsh we could find it really hard to believe that what we see in the article clipping below was how people reacted to the introduction of Drink Drive rules back in 1974. Admittedly this was down in the Republic of Ireland but still, it's a pretty hilarious and incredible read. I struggle to get my head around how many pints people would be allowed to drink and still feel it was okay to climb behind the wheel and make some sort of an attempt to drive the car home. I really don't know about you but I can honestly say that if I put that amount of drink into my body I wouldn't be fit to suck my own thumb or slew a few words together never mind drive a car anywhere! lol
Now days we'd be dragged up in front of a Judge for drinking any more than one drink and getting behind the steering wheel. Rightly so as drinking and driving really does cost lives on so many levels and as such it is a risk that nobody should take or allow themselves to put anyone else at risk because of that choice.
All in all though and all joking aside, this is still one of the funniest things I've read in ages and to say times have changed is one hell of an understatement..
Times definitely have changed for the better.
