One of the things banned in recent years was mobile phones while we are driving. Honestly, it was a good move but it hasn't really been that effective. We all know there are not enough Police about to deal with more run of the mill crime and I can't remember the last time I saw a Police Car pull someone over to the side of the road except on Facebook!
The more I see while out and about every day the more I think everybody has lost their minds with what's acceptable behind the wheel of a car. I see sooooo many people face-timing each other and driving at the same time it beggars belief. Add to that the number of people I see while sitting at Traffic Lights scrolling through their social media with their car in one of those stupid window mounted cradles is ridiculous. As drivers we need to take a level of responsibility for sure but we are quickly getting to a point where if we can't be trusted to make rational decisions about our own safety then those decisions will be taken away from us. I mean, who drives a car with a Dog on their lap??? You wouldn't with a toddler so why would you with some yappy dog bouncing around like a lunatic with their head out the window? Bonkers!
We are getting to a point where technologically, car manufacturers are going to have to start fitting signal blockers in their vehicles to stop phone use. Points on your license doesn't seem to be much of a warning.
This is all getting a bit ranty I know but to finish off there is another thing that I think needs serious consideration with regards to road safety.
Pedestrians and their use of phones and headphones. For crying out loud, why is ALL the responsibility put on the driver? The level of ignorance from pedestrians when staring at a device or listening to music while walking is crazy. It should be the case that the safety of anyone wearing headphones or staring at their device falls on the shoulders of the driver when pedestrians are totally oblivious to their surroundings!
I need to call it a day. There's so much that needs saying and so much needs addressing it's a. of real concern and b. something I have a genuine fear will never be addressed to begin with and that's a shame.
