Becoming a Driving Instructor in Northern Ireland.

If you are interested in becoming a Driving Instructor in Northern Ireland there is a process to know and understand. For most the first link you will come across is for the DVANI & NIDirect website at:

This website as a first port of call gives an person of interest some basic information about the Parts 1, 2 & 3 of the training and testing required to become a PDI, then ADI (Advanced Driving Instructor) once fully qualified.

As a starting point we have put together a comprehensive document which gives as much information as we have available, some of which gives a bit more insight into what you need to do, especially in relation to the AccessNI Clearance that everyone must successfully pass in order to make sure you are in a position to teach younger adults. Please see the link below for everything we have on the subject.

What a large part of the General Public don't understand is that the whole of the Driving Instructor Industry is governed by the DVA in Northern Ireland. We are required by the Department of Infrastructure to be held to a mandate that holds us accountable to the education of the "Safe Driving for Life" program which is designed to create safer drivers for our roads for now and into the future. As a result we must be qualified and are held to a standard and are held responsible for our behaviour in a number of areas. Most importantly is our professionalism and how we interact with people which gives the General Public a forum on which to complain and be heard in relation to Driving Instructor behaviour.

We are not some fly-by-night people who have just decided we want to teach someone to drive. We are professionals and have your best interests at heart as a learner driver.
