Why is finding a Driving Instructor can be a challenge right now.

Back in olden times when I was just a boy finding a driving instructor was actually quite a simple exercise. You called the guy/lady whom taught other members of your family or friend circle, got a recommendation off someone you knew, you made a call and hey-presto you got started with lessons in a few weeks.
So why is it more challenging now?
There are a couple of factors at play in 2025 which mean it is harder to get started straight away.
There isn't the over abundance of instructors there once was.
There are an increasing number of new learners on the roads.
The way the driving standards test has changed there is more to learn which increases the learners time in an instructors car.
That more rigorous testing program can mean more people taking a test more than once, especially those whom have not taken the correct training path towards a test date. (Yes, I am being intentionally vague there but there are reasons for this statement that you'll just have to trust. Lol)
My advice?
Think we'll ahead.
If you want yourself, your son or daughter or are looking on behalf of someone else then get in touch with an Instructor early. Give yourself anywhere from 2-6 months notice. Get yourself on a waiting list and be patient. The days of starting a 17year old on their birthday next week are gone I'm afraid.
