Sitting in traffic on your Driving Test. What's the reality?

Updated: Apr 28

Sitting in Traffic on your Driving Test

I love it when a pupil makes the following statement as the very idea of it always makes me smile.

"I hope I sit in traffic during my test. It'll make passing it so easy!"

Think more carefully about the statement itself. The last time I, or any other Instructor for that matter, checked the process is called doing a "DRIVING TEST" and not a "SITTING IN TRAFFIC TEST". What you've got to remember is, is this test is a check of your standard of driving and how safe and competent you are behind the wheel of a car. What that means is you won't be sitting still and because the traffic is moving slowly or is static the test route will change dynamically. Examiners really know their way around all the various test routes available to them and will have more than enough knowledge to allow them to change things on the fly so they get to check out your driving ability to the maximum, allowing them to make an educated decision about your being competent enough to drive safely on your own.

Always keep in mind that it's a 'Driving STANDARDS Test' and it's not based on the ability to drive but the safe standard at which you drive.

Hope that makes sense guys but as always if it doesn't please feel free to reach out for any help or questions you may have.
