Obvious stuff for an Examiner to see when you're being Driver Tested.

What an Examiner sees when you're on your Driving Test.

There are a number of really obvious things that any Examiner can sit and watch and see if you are doing things correctly when you are out and about on your Driving Test. To keep it really simple, if you can keep the things that an Examiner can see easily in check you could really improve your chances of passing.

Think about your mirror work as an example. If you were sitting in the passenger seat watching a driver and focused on their use of their mirrors how easy would it be for you to see the mistakes they are making?

With that in mind do you think it would be easy for someone else watching you do the same thing?

Yes, it would.

Most things are pretty easy to get right (if you are concentrating) but are also pretty easy to get wrong at the same time.

Next time you're out on a lesson or driving with Mum or Dad, think about these basic tasks and try and get them as near perfect as you can for 35 minutes:

  • Your Hand position on the steering wheel. Try and make sure you are in full control as much as you possibly can.

  • Your Observation and how/when you are using your mirrors and your general observation while on the move.

  • Clutch & Gear work and how it impacts on any form of coasting. For example, NEVER let the car continue moving forwards in Neutral.

There are some things that an Examiner can assess on feel alone, such as:

  • Coasting, again, you can just feel it happening.

  • Abrupt Braking.

  • Abrupt Acceleration.

If you can master these things then you will exponentially improve your chances of passing.
