Why Space & Time are important for your Driving.

The 2 things really go hand in hand. More time equals more space and more space equals more time but what do we mean?
To keep it simple and brief, one of the biggest mistakes that all drivers make, both novice and experienced, is that we don't give ourselves enough time and space to allow us to read the road ahead effectively which in turn gives the time we need to be able to correct our own mistakes or compensate for the mistakes of others. It's a hard one to get right too. When you drive around all day, day after day, you see a lot of people making the most basic of errors simply because they are not giving themselves the appropriate amount of space and time to drive safely never mind effectively or with any sort of consideration.
It's a hard thing to teach too. A lot of learners can and do see what other drivers do and incorrectly assume that the way to do something is what they see it being done on the road. Quite often we have to reinforce the message of 'just because you see them do it, doesn't make them right, follow your training and not your eyes'. The negative reinforcement of other drivers makes it harder for learners to understand the importance that affording yourself space and time can bring.
If only every driver thought that way, how much safer would we all be?
