Why won't my Driving Instructor to take me for my Driving Test?
Did you book the test without talking to them first?
Have they told you you're not ready?
Are you ignoring their advice in an effort to accelerate yourself through the test process?
This topic is a hot one amongst Driving Instructors and to a point is one of our greatest frustrations.
Let me ask you a couple of questions...
Do you know almost everything there is to know about Driving Tests, Driving Rules & Regulations?
Why do you assume you are ready to take the test when your Instructor hasn't mentioned it or has simply told you that it's not a good idea?
One thing you need to understand.
Every Instructor I know wants one thing. You, the student/pupil to pass your test at the first attempt.
It has nothing to do with getting more money out of you and everything to do with the point I have just made above.
There is something very important you also need to consider and fully understand.
If you take a test before you are ready YOU are putting your Instructors professional reputation at risk and there are costs to that. Do you think the DVA don't monitor what is going on within Driver Testing circles? All Instructors are held to a professional code of conduct and as such we should be teaching to the highest levels we can. When you do a test you are not ready for, and fail, it's your Instructor who runs the risk of being flagged and as this situation escalates more and more, you, and the learner drivers that follow you, will be prevented from moving forwards and getting that test because we don't need to take the risk. Be patient. We know what we are doing.
When you are on your pre-test lesson we want you confident of your ability to pass. Not a bundle of nerves who can't even make basic decisions because your knees have went to jelly. If that's the case, and trust me, after spending thousands of hours in these situations, we certainly know instinctively, don't be shocked when your instructor tells you the test is cancelled. Even half an hour before the test is due to start. Our professionalism and reputation is more valuable to us than you wobbling around making a mockery of everything you've been taught.
Your Driving Instructor is a professional.
They have spent thousands of hours teaching and do anywhere from 50 to 100 tests a year on average.
Trust that professionalism and knowledge.
A good Instructor will know more than you ever will and certainly know more than your mate who's done 1 or 2 tests max, against one of us who has done hundreds.
Trust us.
We want you to pass as much as you do but not at any cost!
